Africa under fever siege!

I doubt I am the only South African concerned about the Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF) killing our brothers and sisters in other parts of Africa. I mean it is only a matter of time until the false alar cases we've heard of in the country, are actually not false alarms no more. It seems to be spreading from one African country to the next, like wild fire if I should add.

I will have you know that I actually didn't know about the disease until like a month ago, when it brought the huge amount of people to the ground.

Had to conduct a research and share some 411 pertaining the fever:

The virus may be acquired upon contact with blood
or bodily fluids of an infected animal. Spreading through the air has not been documented in the natural environment. Fruit bats are believed to carry and spread the virus without being affected. Once human infection occurs, the disease may spread between people, as well. Male survivors may be able to transmit the disease viasemen for nearly two months. (OMG hey!!)
To confirm the diagnosis, blood samples are tested for viralantibodies, viral RNA,or the virus itself.
No specific treatment for the disease is yet available. (Hence the large number of death reports)Efforts to help those who are infected are supportive and include giving either oral rehydration therapy(slightly sweet and salty water to drink) or intravenous fluids (google them if you don't know them). The disease has a high risk of death, killing between 50% and 90% of those infected with the virus. (I mean...)

The disease typically occurs in outbreaks in tropical regions of sub-Saharan Africa.
The first case of it is said to have been identified in Sudan. ..
This year's outbreak marks the largest compared to previous cases, it claimed many lives.

The virus causes bleeding in and oitside the body. Imagine the amount of pain that one must go through...
It damages the immune system and organs, and causes a drop in the blood-clottng cells.

It starts showing symptoms from the second day up to the 21st day of infection .
The symptoms include:

  • High Fever
  • Headache
  • Joint and Muscle Aches
  • Sore Throat
  • Weakness
  • Stomach Pains
As the disease gets worse it cause bleeding inside the body, as well as from the eyes, ears and nose. Some people cough or vomit blood or have a bloody diarrhea and get a rash.

A vaccine ought to be found before the whole African continent comes to an end...
Really!
